Salt Lamps

A Himalayan salt lamp is made from a hollowed block of Pakistani rock salt in which a bulb is placed thus it shines with either amber or white light. Select either rough natural pink to get a traditional appearance or use white salt to get a brighter appearance, or carved spheres and pyramids to get a modern appearance to the rooms. A small bedroom can be furnished with a 5 to 7 lb lamp, whereas bigger rooms will require 10 to 15lb or more. Make sure there is a solid base with neem or rosewood, and a UL certified cord and store it in dry rooms. Bulk quotes can be requested by retailers.

Authentic Himalayan Salt Lamps: Key Benefits & Buyer's Guide

The use of white salt lamps which consist of the salt mined from the Himalayas has changed considerably since the days when it was just a fad for interior design. The magnificent crystals of the salt lamps are hand crafted from the salt mines of the Himalayas of Pakistan. They provide your home with light, character, and constant harmony. When you are in search of a soothing night light for your bedroom or any other natural elements for your house, then the proper selection and placement of your salt lamp will help create a serene room.

What is a Himalayan Salt Lamp?

These lamps consist of rock salt which is found in the Himalayan range and these are mined from the natural rock salt mines in Pakistan. Rocks of this salt occur in several colors such as red, orange, pink, and white. Once the rock salt is hollowed out, a light bulb is installed in it. When switched on, the light is emitted through the translucent rock salt producing amber or white light. Besides being used for lighting, crystal salt lamps are also utilized for ornamental purposes.

Essential Types of Salt Lamps

In the process of decorating or purchasing items according to certain aesthetics, one comes across the following three different types:

  • Natural Pink Himalayan Salt Lamps: This is the classic design that people know well with rough and unpolished sides as well as pink to amber coloring.

  • White Salt Lamps: This kind of salt lamp is made of rarer translucent mineral layers, making the design look very modern and the lighting brighter.

  • Crafted and Geometric Forms: Carved in smooth spheres, bowls holding lighted blocks of salt, or perfect pyramids for sophisticated office workstations and modern environments.

Top Benefits of Adding Salt Lamps to Your Home

1. Ambient Stabilization and Calming Aesthetics

The gentle warm lights emitted by the Himalayan salt lamps mirror the ambient waves of a setting sun. The low kelvin of this light is soothing for your eyes after an entire day of blue light emanating from smartphones, computers, and TV screens.

2. Naturally Hygroscopic Air Attraction Property

The crystals of salt are naturally hygroscopic and attract water vapor droplets present in the surroundings. As water vapor gets collected on the heated surface of the salt crystal, the air particles of dust and pollen adhere to the surface of the rock.

3. Improving Room Environment and Sleep Hygiene

Replacing LED lights attached to the ceiling with the salt lamp during nighttime will ensure that the calming atmosphere is created for sound sleeping habits.

Best Buy Guide: How to Select an Authentic Salt Lamp

In order for you to receive real quality and especially while purchasing from the authentic pure salt manufacturer, consider the following selection tips:

  • Weight to Room Ratio: Choose the appropriate weight of the lamp depending on the size of your room. A regular 5 to 7 lbs lamp suits small bedrooms or study rooms while heavier lamps weighing 10 to 15+ lbs are suitable for bigger rooms.

  •  Robust Wood Base: The high quality salt lamps have a strong neem or rosewood base that is firmly screwed onto the salt rock base.

  •  UL Listed Wiring: Always check the cord dimmer switch as well as the bulb housing to verify its safety for everyday use.

  • Authenticity Test: The natural salt lamps are rather brittle, slightly matte in color when turned off and translucent but not uniform in appearance.

Maintenance & Proper Care

In order for your lamp to remain efficient throughout its life span, you need to install it in a dry environment which is indoors and not humid. You should avoid having your lamp installed in humid environments such as bathrooms and open air patios since humidity makes salts sweat. In case your lamp gets into any humid environment, just switch it on for a few hours to dry it out.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

How big is the salt lamp for each room?

Small bedrooms or studies would benefit from a 5 to 7 lb (2 to 3 kg) lamp while a 10 to 15 lb (4.5 to 7 kg) lamp or larger are suitable for living rooms and larger rooms. Commercial interiors are available for showroom pieces 50 kg and over.

How to know if a Himalayan salt lamp is real?

Natural salt has uneven layers of minerals which make real salt lamps slightly brittle, matte when not lit, and they glow unevenly when lit. When the light is entirely even, it can indicate a fake.

The difference between pink salt lamps and white salt lamps?

Pink salt lamps have a natural appearance with a warm amber glow. The white salt lamps are made from a thinner and less common translucent layer and are capable of producing a brighter and cooler light for modern interior design.

Sometimes salt lamps get wet, why?

Lamps will "sweat" in a moist environment as the salt is attracted to the moisture in the air. Avoid having lamps in bathrooms or in outdoor areas, and turn on the lights for a few hours to dry up any damp lamps.

Have certified lamp fittings that meet my market safety standards?

UL, CE, RoHS and SAA certified cords and dimmer switches are used on our 110V to 240V lamps. Let us know your destination market and we will provide you with the proper plug, cord and certification.

Is it possible to buy salt lamps with my own brand?
